Non-surgical methods also include thread lift for the double chin, high-frequency ultrasound therapy (HIFU), Kybella injections, and laser treatments. Before undergoing a double chin lift surgery, consultation with a physician and performing the relevant tests are necessary to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

Double chin lift surgery; liposuction, neck lift, and submentoplasty

In cases of severe skin laxity or high fat content, double chin surgery is considered the best option. Double chin lift surgery is performed using five methods: liposuction, neck and chin lift, submentoplasty, and Vaser lipo.

Double chin lift surgery involves: liposuction, neck lift, and submentoplasty.

Chin liposuction; localized fat removal and jawline contouring

Chin liposuction is a simple, minimally invasive procedure to remove excess fat under the chin. In the procedure of Double chin suction, a small incision is made, and a thin tube called a cannula is inserted into the fatty tissue. The fat in the chin area is then gently suctioned out. This procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia, and the patient does not require general anesthesia.

Neck and double chin lift; simultaneous rejuvenation of the neck and double chin

For Neck lift surgery and removal of excess fat under the chin or double chin, various methods are used. One of these methods is “cervicoplasty”, which aims to remove excess skin from the neck and under the chin area. Another method is called “platysmaplasty” and focuses on tightening the neck muscles. In both methods, incisions are made behind the ear and under the chin to allow the skin to be pulled, muscles strengthened, and excess tissue removed.

Submental liposuction; a minimally invasive method for removing a double chin.

In the sub-mentoplasty method, excess fat under the chin is removed, sagging skin is tightened, and the muscles in that area are strengthened and firmed. This technique can be considered a combination of liposuction and limited neck lift, which generally improves the shape of the under-chin area. Note that the results of this method are lasting and long-term.

To achieve satisfactory results from this and other chin surgery methods, choosing a doctor is of paramount importance; therefore, be sure to thoroughly research for sub-mentoplasty and go to  the best cosmetic surgeon in Tehran or other cities.

Vaser Liposuction for Double Chin; A Novel and Low-Risk Method in Double Chin Lifting Surgery

Lipo Vaser This is one of the newest methods for removing fat in the chin area. Using ultrasound waves, it liquefies localized fat and precisely removes it. In the method of Vaser Lipo chin liposuction, in addition to fat removal, the ultrasound waves stimulate collagen production, resulting in tighter and lifted skin. Compared to traditional surgical methods, this is less invasive and leads to firmer skin.

Non-surgical double chin lift; threads, HIFU, Kybella, and laser

For individuals with mild to moderate sagging and those who are not interested in surgical facelifts, non-surgical methods are suitable. These methods are minimally invasive and safer, with a shorter recovery period. Thread lift, HIFU, Kybella injections, and Endolift laser are among the common non-surgical double chin lift methods.

Non-surgical double chin lift with threads, HIFU, Kybella, and laser.

Neck lift with threads; Jawline shaping without surgery

In this method, special threads are placed under the skin of the submental area (under the chin) to lift the skin and create a tighter appearance. These threads, in addition to lifting the skin, also stimulate collagen production. The longevity of this method is approximately one year.

Keep in mind that non-surgical methods such as thread lifts for the submental area are not very effective for severe skin sagging under the chin. In such cases, it is better to use methods such as: Double chin lipomatic surgery (Use submental liposuction)

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) methods; double chin lift with focused waves

In the non-invasive HIFU therapy method, ultrasound waves are used to stimulate collagen production and reduce fat. This method is less expensive than surgery for eliminating a double chin and does not have significant side effects; only some individuals may experience temporary redness or mild skin swelling.

Kybella injection (deoxycholic acid); reduction of double chin fat with deoxycholic acid

In this method, deoxycholic acid (a natural substance found in the gallbladder that helps break down dietary fats) is injected under the chin. This method requires several sessions to achieve the desired result. Common side effects of Kybella injection include pain, swelling, bruising, redness, and numbness, which resolve within one to two weeks.

Endolift Laser; A minimally invasive method for chin lift

In the laser double chin lift method, a thin fiber, as thin as a hair, is used. This fiber is inserted under the skin, and by emitting laser energy, it breaks down fat and stimulates collagen production. This technique is performed with devices such as EndoLift and simultaneously tightens the skin and reduces fat in the double chin area.

Post-operative Care

To achieve better results and reduce potential complications from a double chin surgery, do not forget to follow post-operative care instructions. These include:

  • Sleeping at an appropriate angle and avoiding direct pressure on the surgical area.
  • Using cold compresses to reduce swelling.
  • Taking prescribed medications.
  • Avoiding strenuous physical activity.
  • Avoiding direct sunlight and using sunscreen.
  • Maintaining surgical site hygiene and avoiding washing with hot water.

The recovery period for double chin surgery is approximately one week to several months. Complete healing of swelling and wounds may take up to 3 months.

Longevity of results after a double chin lift procedure.

The results of surgical chin lift, if performed correctly and with proper care, are likely to last for years. However, the natural aging process will have its effect in the long term. Keep in mind that non-surgical methods have less longevity and usually need to be renewed annually.

Chin lift surgery cost and insurance; can supplementary insurance be used for this procedure?

The cost of a double chin lift depends on the type of procedure, the extent of sagging, and the doctor’s expertise. Surgical methods have a higher cost but also provide longer-lasting results. Since a double chin lift is considered a cosmetic procedure, it is usually not covered by basic insurance. However, some supplemental insurance plans may cover part of the costs.
